QDX

Setup guide

Results into any EMR, by fax

Every EMR can receive faxes. Most place incoming faxes in a document inbox, where your staff attach them to the patient's chart. QDX can fax each result report to that number, so results reach your EMR from day one, whichever EMR you use, with no setup on the EMR's side.

1. Set it up in QDX

StepWhere
Add the fax destinationSettings > Results delivery: choose Fax and enter your EMR's incoming fax number. Add it for the whole practice, or for one clinician's own orders.
Confirm the numberQDX faxes a one-page cover with a six-digit code to that number. Enter the code in QDX. Nothing is faxed to a number until it has been confirmed this way.
That's allFrom then on, each result's lab report is faxed to that number as soon as QDX receives it. Every fax is tracked, retried if it fails, and recorded with the carrier's delivery confirmation.

2. In your EMR

  • Faxes arrive wherever your EMR puts incoming faxes, usually a document or fax inbox.
  • Each fax is the lab report itself, with the patient's name and date of birth, so staff can attach it to the right chart.
  • Some EMRs can file incoming faxes to the chart automatically; your EMR's support team can tell you.

3. Other ways results can reach you

A practice can choose any combination, all at once: the QDX portal, email (a notice, or the report attached), a phone call, a text notice (once carrier registration for texts completes), HL7 to your interface engine (HTTPS, SFTP or MLLP), FHIR to your server, a webhook, or a PDF or text download. For some EMRs, QDX also files results straight into the chart; see your EMR's setup guide.
